Custom Discord slash commands, without code
A command is a trigger plus what the bot does. In Bot Creator you pick the trigger, then build the answer with blocks, or write it in BDFD or JavaScript if you prefer.
How to build it
- Create a command and choose how it starts: Slash command, Text Message (prefix), User command or Message command.
- Choose how it is built: Visual (Blocks), BDFD Code or JavaScript.
- Add Respond with Message with text, embeds and buttons. Read the user’s input with
((opts.option_name))and the user’s name with((user.username)). - Add logic as needed: IF / ELSE Block, Random Choice, Cooldown, HTTP Request, and variables to remember things between runs.
- Check the message in the playground before you deploy.
Blocks you will use
Block names are the ones of the app; each links to its entry in the dictionary.
- Respond with Message — Replies to the command with text, embeds and buttons.
- IF / ELSE Block — Branches on a condition.
- Random Choice — Picks a random item from a list.
- Cooldown — Limits how often a command can be used.
- HTTP Request — Calls an external API and reads the result.
- Set variable (per server, member…) — Stores a value per server, member, channel…
What to know
- The playground draws only the message of reply and send blocks; other blocks are edited and exported but not run there.
- Which functions BDFD code can use is listed in the reference, function by function.
